Which product categories are on the 19 August Canada lists
The 3 proclamations of 23 July name 554 tariff lines of Canadian origin, and from 19 August 2026 those lines carry an additional 50% duty whether or not the goods qualify under USMCA. Most sellers do not need all 554. They need to know whether the thing they sell is in scope at all.
Below is that reading, by category. Every code links to the checker, and the general list runs to 439 lines, so treat the codes as examples within a category rather than the whole of it.

These are the ones sellers assume are in scope and are not, as machine-read from the annexes and checked against the text of all 3.

The beauty pair is the one worth sitting with. Lip, eye and nail make-up are on the general list and a moisturiser is not, so a brand selling both is half in scope and half out, on the same shelf and the same shipment.
Before you act on any of this
The category is not the classification. The line your goods actually enter under is the one that counts, and 2 products that look the same in a catalogue can sit on different lines. Section 232-covered goods, energy, potash, fish and certain critical minerals are out of scope, so a line appearing here does not settle it either.
The checker takes 6, 8 or 10 digit codes and says which list a line sits on. The rate table shows what the duty is today on 100 or so common lines by origin, with the assumptions under each number.
There is a timing trap in this one worth knowing before you plan around the date. The duty attaches on customs entry rather than despatch, and none of the 3 proclamations contains an exception for goods already in transit, so a shipment that leaves Canada before the 19th and clears after it still carries the duty. That is set out in the note on what changes.
The lists and the rates both move
This action was published on 23 July and applies from 19 August. That is 27 days of notice, and only to people who happened to be reading the Federal Register that week. In the last 6 months 3 separate US tariff regimes have been struck down, expired or created. A line that is clear today can be on a list next month, and the rate on a line you have already checked can move without the line itself changing at all.
Doing that check across a whole catalogue, twice a day, is the job Duty Diligence does. It reads the cost, HS code and country of origin already held in a Shopify store, shows the effective duty and the landed margin for every variant, and flags the ones that changed since yesterday. The snapshot is free and needs no card. I am also happy to answer questions about any single line if one of these is behaving oddly.

Every code shown above was checked against both the parsed line list and the text of the scanned annexes on 30 July 2026, and every category in the second table was confirmed absent from both. The annexes are scans, so verify at the source before acting on a single line. Informational, not customs, legal or financial advice.
